Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase like this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
