Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side just seven months following leading derogatory songs aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year time with Leeds concluded amicably this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading insulting songs regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Past Conflict Between the Striker and Wilder

Both men had history before Leeds won promotion to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.

The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Career Struggles

The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
