Reigning Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record £11m in earnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
