Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the team's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they start the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is out of work meaning Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
