Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer behind some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
